Final Status for 2023-2024 School Year

This school year, through the support of EPIC BOCES, Summit County Builders Association, Careers in Construction, our community trades volunteers, and students, we were able to start and finish a 30 ft length Tiny Home. This is a significant accomplishment. An event was held to recognize the graduating seniors and to thank the over 50 donors and volunteers who participated in the program. Many thanks to all who supported this program.

This past week, we had 6 solar panels installed on the Tiny Home by Innovative Energy. See Rick's pics below.

We also placed 12 students in summer internship and employment opportunities in construction, framing, electrical, plumbing, welding, and excavation. The companies that provided intern positions include Barrios Construction, Kevin Sterling Construction, Evan Armstrong Electric, JVC & KB Mech, Anderson Construction, Stan Miller, and Infinity Fabrication & Welding.

Oakley, in conjunction with EPIC BOCES and Summit High School, has offered three one-week classes in skills training in construction for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. This is a great program for students who like to work with their hands and get exposed to trades. This program was offered to all SCBA members first.

July 4th: Mark your calendar! The Town of Frisco Parade will feature the Tiny Home this year. Hope to see you there.

For the next school year, the Tiny Home (TH2) trailer is on order for the 2024-2025 school year and will arrive at the beginning of August. If you are interested in volunteering time to work with the students and help with the build, please reach out.

Attached is an update from the Careers in Construction Colorado State organization. As you can see, this program is statewide, and we are one of over 60 schools involved. Next school year, I am told there will be over 70 schools in the program. Take pride in our accomplishments as we stand out with the best in the state.

Enjoy the summer—it is always too short.
