“Toppin-Off Tradition/Ceremony”
Nailing a branch to the gable end of a home is a tradition known as “toppin-out”, which originated in Scandinavia!
The ritual celebrates the completion of the buildings frame by placing a branch on the highest point!!
The tradition serves to thank the forest for the materials, protect the structure, and bring good luck to the inhabitants and the workers!!!
(then we all went into the shop and enjoyed some chilidogs together - with coleslaw, mac salad, and chips to celebrate some more)
